How to Create a Cohesive Aesthetic for your Home

When we started designing and planning out this house, I had such a vivid idea of how I wanted it to look. I wasn’t sure exactly what furniture and decor but the concept was there and I wanted to make it happen. I began by making some rules for myself and sticking to them…no matter what. From a piece of art to a candle, if it doesn’t fit within my rules (my vibe), it doesn’t get incorporated into my decor.

Let’s talk about getting those rules set in place.

  1. Start with identifying a style you want for your home. Go on Pinterest, search around and select images that speak to you. I wanted a modern clean look that felt cozy. I wanted it to feel livable. I wanted materials like wood and concrete with a neutral color scheme.
  2. Pick a color palette and stick to it. I chose neutrals; beige, black and white.
  3. Incorporate different textures within your color palette. This includes a sofa, curtain panels, a chunky throw blanket, etc. Remember to keep these within your color palette. This step really makes a big difference. Once you incorporate these different textures in the chosen color palette, your eyes start seeing a cohesive design.
  4. Add Contrast. With my neutral palette, black components really create the contrast I need and love. This helps draw your eye to certain decor elements.
  5. FOLLOW YOUR RULES, stick to them and you will transform your home design.

The reel below flips quickly through many different images of my home and it all seemed cohesive to me which made me so happy! I work hard on keeping these rules, so this reel meant a lot + proved how worth it is!
